KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Construction began today on the new site of the Wonderscope Children’s Museum.

The 30,000-square-foot facility at the Red Bridge Shopping Center on Holmes Road is expected to be completed next fall and will replace the current location in Shawnee, Kansas.

“It’s been three years in the making,” Roxane Hill, Wonderscope executive director, said in a news release. “We are so excited to share the news that Kansas City will soon have a new premiere children’s museum."

The new facility, which was announced in 2017, will include “dynamic” exhibit spaces that focus on education activities, as well as birthday-party rooms, classroom space and an outdoor area.

Kansas City leaders have previously said they hope the museum will draw more traffic to the south side of the city leading to more economic growth.

The museum was founded in 1989.
