After decades of memories for so many in the Northland, the first walls of the main building fell at Metro North Mall on Thursday.

Crews said demolition should take until about March, and then they will begin crushing concrete to be reused. Salvage crews have spent the last several weeks and months taking materials from inside.

We got our own last look inside the mall and what will come next in September.

There is a lot of mall to tear down. Developers have said Metro North Mall is about one million square feet.

All the demolition makes way for a newly planned shopping development. The developer hopes to include a movie theater and small grocery store alongside Macy's, which they say will be staying. It is a bitter sweet day for many who remember Christmas shopping, watching the balloons, or sipping on an Orange Julius.
