KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A former Washburn University football player drafted last weekend by the New York Giants who was shot Sunday morning in Topeka has been released from the hospital.
NFL.com reported Tuesday that Corey Ballentine was released from the hospital Sunday night.
Lee’s Summit-native and fellow Washburn football player Dwane Simmons died in the off-campus shooting.
Ballentine, who was taken with the 180th pick in last weekend’s draft, might be able to make the Giants’ rookie camp later this week.
