More bridge construction is coming to Lee's Summit.
This week MoDOT will begin construction on the Colbern/Bannister Road Bridge over 350 Highway. Crews will remove the bridge and replace it in time for the next school year.
The bridge will be closed throughout the project beginning May 31.
From June 2 - 5, MoDOT will close 350 Hwy under the bridge for demolition. Closures of eastbound lanes will begin at 8 p.m. on June 2. Closures of westbound lanes will begin at 11 p.m. Drivers will detour using the off-ramps during the closures.
"We've tried to squeeze the time down on that project and fit it into the summer months to avoid impacts to schools and to the Unity Village there," said Matt Killion, Area Engineer with MoDOT.
This will be one of six bridge projects in Lee's Summit, Missouri this year.
"The bridges are in poor condition," said Killion. "In our 5-year program we have 96 bridge projects that we'll be working on in our Kansas City district. We have over 10,000 bridges statewide and about 800 of those are in poor condition."
Work is currently underway on the Colbern Road Bridge over I-470. Crews are replacing the bridge deck and making some bicycle and pedestrian improvements. I-470 was shut down for a weekend in May and will be shut down again in mid-August.
