There’s a new cafe in town and it’s not your average shop. Along with your latte you can order up a side of life coaching.
When you walk through the door of Nate and Son’s Cafe, you’ll see they’re offering more than what’s on the menu.
“We want change and we’re saying we’re willing. We’re willing to be the people who make change,” said Tasha James, the owner of Nate and Son's Cafe and a life coach.
James and her family made drastic changes to their lifestyles after her husband Nathan James became very sick.
“The doctor basically was just like, if you don’t change your life, you will die,” said James.
Cutting out unhealthy foods from their diet and negative thinking altogether brought positive change.
“If you’re health conscious about what you eat, you’re health conscious about the way you think,” said James.
Places like Nate and Son’s Cafe aren’t seen that often in its area of Troost Avenue.
“This is where it’s needed,” said James.
Their goal is to reach a community they say is suffering.
“Kansas City needed us, they do need us. We have a lot of homicides, we have a lot of depressed and pressed people because you know, they don’t have a way out,” said James.
Along with their smoothies and sandwiches, Nathan and Tasha James are dishing out their life skills for free.
“Me and my husband decided that you know what, we need to be those people, we can’t just be the person that’s on social media shaking our head saying this is a shame,” said James.
James said it was other people from all walks of life who influenced her family's life for the better, and now she’s paying it forward.
“Somebody took the time out of their busy life to say, this is what you need to do, this is how you do that, this is how you do this, and you know, I feel like we should do the same thing and I feel that it’s what’s going to change Kansas City and bring us together,” said James.
Nate and Son’s Cafe also hosts a KC Unity Movement event monthly to bring people of different cultures and backgrounds together. The next event will be held on Sunday, August 27 from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m.
