KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Chew Diligence co-hosts Lindsay Shively and Jill Silva are joined by Jasper Mirabile (a man with so many titles, it’s hard to name just one!) to celebrate 65 years of family and food at Jasper’s Restaurant.

Opening it's original location in 1954, Jasper's Restaurant has been a staple in Kansas City for 65 years, and through renovations and moves, two things remain the same — food and family.

Still, there have been some changes for the better.

“I’ll never forget my dad said the first week they did 1,200, $1,200. And he said, ‘Joe, if we can keep this up, this place is gonna go.’ And that was a lot of money back in 1954. Having 15 to 20 customers every hour come in. Now, if we open at 5 o’clock and we only have 50 people waiting on weekends, we’re upset,” Mirabile said, chuckling.

The growth the restaurant has seen under his and his family's leadership is extraordinary, and it's partly thanks to a philosophy called "MITH," or "Mirabile in the house." Jasper said any time the restaurant is open, there's at least one member of the Mirabile family there to run the show.

More about that on this week's Chew Diligence. Listen or download via the player above, or find it wherever you find podcasts.

This week on "First the Food," Lindsay and Jill visited two places that have been featured on the podcast.

Jill went to the Brewkery to taste test some kombucha. Her favorite? The Spa Treatment.

Lindsay dined at Michael Smith's new spot, Farina, where she enjoyed impeccable service and the braised short rib.
