KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The eyes of the country are on the 2018 U.S. Senate race in Missouri.
Here are a few reasons why:
- In 2016, President Donald Trump won the general election by 19 points over Hillary Clinton.
- Missouri is one of 10 states with a democratic senator where Trump won two years ago.
Republican candidate Josh Hawley is favored to win the Republican nomination in the August 7 primary. Polls show McCaskill with a slim one point lead over Hawley in November.
McCaskill is sitting at a 40 percent approval rating according to one poll, with 44 percent of Missourians disapproving of her performance in the Senate.
The race is too close to call, but for more on where each candidate stands on the issues, spending and more, check out the graphic below.
