Northland power outage alters vote processing

Northland power outage alters vote processing

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Platte County Election officials say a northland polling place off of Barry Road was affected by a power outage Tuesday morning that forced voters to place their completed ballots in a safety box instead of immediately ingesting their ballot.

Kansas City Power and Light’s outage map showed two outages at polling places Tuesday: 8221 N. Overland Drive and 5502 NW Clubhouse Drive.

KCP&L says they prioritized restoring power to both locations and by 10:20 a.m., power had been restored to the Clubhouse Drive location.

Election workers say voters at those locations have still been able to vote.

When power is restored, the ballots cast during the outage will be fed from the secure box into the machine. That process will be monitored by party representatives.
