Republican presidential hopeful Sen. Ted Cruz made a campaign stop in Kansas City Saturday afternoon ahead of Tuesday’s primary.

Around 1,000 Ted Cruz supporters packed the Adam’s Mark Hotel ballroom to hear the senator who is in a tight race with Donald Trump.

“All across Missouri, all across this country, people are waking up and help is on the way,” Cruz said.

He told the crowd this upcoming general election boils down to three points: jobs, freedom and security.

“Cruz really appreciates what America was founded on and our voices matter,” Abby Kridelbaugh, a supporter from KCMO said.

Earlier this week, tragedy struck the families of five men who law enforcement say were murdered by Pablo Serrano-Vitorino.

The 40-year-old native from Mexico had been deported in the past. He came back into the country and flew under the radar due to an error by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Senator Cruz told 41 Action News that is simply unacceptable.

“It is wrong and I'll tell you if I am elected president we will enforce our immigration laws, we will deport criminal illegal aliens and we will not be releasing criminal legal aliens into the community,” Sen. Cruz said.

The Texas senator considers Missouri a battleground state going into Tuesday’s primary, but is confident he’ll do well.

“If we stand together, that's not only how we’ll win the nomination, that’s how we’ll win the general election, beat Hillary Clinton and bring back jobs and growth and opportunity for this country,” Cruz said.

Unlike Trump’s recent campaign stops, Cruz’s visit Saturday afternoon was peaceful.

Cruz made stops in Cape Girardeau and Springfield, Missouri after Kansas City.

He is set to appear in North Carolina on Sunday.
