KCK family shares struggle after red light crash

Posted

Only a day out of the hospital, Lidia Florentino describes the bleeding and numbness she experienced the night two trucks slammed into her car with her two sons in the back seat.

"I was covered in blood. I wanted to move my feet but I couldn't move them," Florentino told 41 Action News.

The Wyandotte County District Attorney charged Noe Maderos and Steven Langley with aggravated battery for the Sept. 29 crash.

The DA said both men raced their trucks from 18th Street Expressway and I-70 and ran the red light at 18th Street Expressway and I-35.

"I looked back where my two kids were and I asked my older son, 'Are you ok?' He said yes mom but he was crying - they were both crying," Florentino said.

Six-year-old Bryan suffered a severe concussion, cut finger and a broken jaw. 21-month-old John has a skull fracture and a brain bleed.

"They destroyed my dreams. They changed my life completely because I wasn't planning to be in a wheelchair," Florentino said.

Florentino spent almost two weeks in the hospital for her fractured pelvis; stitches mend her cuts on her arm and foot.

"You can't be racing on the freeway because that's not what freeways were meant for. Think before doing it because they ruin innocent lives," Florentino said.

Both 21-year-old men are out on bond.

Maderos will be back in court Nov. 1 and Langley on Nov. 8.
