A woman was killed in a house fire in KCK Monday night, according to city officials.
Crews responded to a fire in the 2500 block of South 46th Street around 11 p.m.
That's about the time neighbor Jared Stinnett was coming home from work. He saw the flames and knocked out the back window of the home but there was no way upstairs.
"I rushed over there as quick as I could do to save her and try to pull her out. Unfortunately, there was nothing I could do," said Stinnett.
Other neighbors also tried to save the woman trapped inside the home but were not able to.
Fire Marshall John Droppelmann said the woman's husband was inside when the fire started and smoke detectors woke him up. He came outside to call emergency services and tried to reenter several times.
However, the fire was too hot and smoky.
"Ambulance crew, medics, EMTs started to assess her and determined she had succumbed to her injuries," said Droppelmann.
Investigators believe the fire started in the living room area upstairs. There's no word yet on the cause of the fire.

Neighbors say the woman who passed was named, "Tammy." One neighbor told 41 Action News she always talked about returning to Tennessee so she could ride her horses. They said she loved playing with her grandson and other kids on their street, and could be found grilling out on her lawn.
The grandchildren of the victim told 41 Action News she was in her 50s.
Gary Smith and Associates owns the property and told 41 Action News they have no statement at this time.
The family who lives on their other side of the duplex also has to move out because of the fire. They have three kids and nowhere to go.
