Police are investigating what they believe is a murder-suicide after two people were found dead inside a home in KCK.
Around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, a 17-year-old girl came home from school to find her mother and step-father dead in the back room of their house in the 3000 block of S. 46th Terrace. The Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department confirmed both were deceased.
"The daughter coming home from school finding them that bothers me. Gosh she has to live with that for the rest of her life," neighbor Vickie Young said. "It's a lot harder than I thought it would be. I didn't think it would bother me but I talked to her every day. She was my neighbor and she's got children."
The woman's son is just seven years old. KCK police picked him up from school on Tuesday to protect him from seeing what his sister did when she came home.
Young said it truly hit her, "When I looked over and saw the swing. She would always be sitting in the swing, waving. Nobody deserves that. Regardless, nobody deserves that."
Police said the initial investigation revealed the two died from gunshot wounds. Although they are investigating the incident as a murder/suicide, that cannot be confirmed until the investigation is complete.
The incident remains under investigation by the KCK Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division. They encourage anyone with information to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
