University of Kansas police said two women were sexually assaulted inside a dorm on KU’s campus.

Jon Myers, 18, is charged with sexual battery and attempted rape.

Police said they were called to Oliver Hall around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. They said both assaults happened between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

KU freshman Morgan Prieve lives at Oliver Hall. She said Wednesday night was eerily quite.

“It was just like weird not seeing everyone out and about,” said Prieve.

Students on KU’s campus told 41 Action News Oliver Hall is primarily a dorm for first-year students.

“I know it’s a pretty popular dorm for freshmen especially, so that’s kind of disappointing that’s maybe someone’s first experience of college,” said KU student Matt Hoffmann, who lived inside Oliver Hall last year.

“I mean you hear about things happening like that at college, but you don’t ever really expect that it happens at yours, so just to hear that it does, kind of a scary situation,” said KU student Ashley Kozan.

As for Prieve, she said she too is scared to hear the details of what police say happened inside the dorm she is living in. Not only for her, but also for her parents.

“My parents wouldn’t like to hear that either you know, they don’t want to hear that their kid goes off to college and like isn’t safe in the dorm that they pay for and like live in,” said Prieve.
