A man received a citation for public nudity last week after he wore a thong to the Prairie Village Pool.
According to police, this is the second time the man has been warned about his fashion choice.
The man, whose name has not been released, received a warning from police last year after he wore a thong to the same pool.
After news of the man's citation was released on Friday, there were mixed reactions to the man's fashion choice.
"I went, 'Oh my God. I'm glad I wasn't here,'" said Joe Falk as he was leaving the pool on Friday. "What are people thinking? I have no idea."
Others, like Jeannine Demarco, said they didn't have a problem with the man wearing a thong at the pool.
"I think it's crazy that some poor guy who's just trying to go swimming got escorted out and is now in trouble," she explained.
Prairie Village Police Capt. Byron Roberson said his office received a call on June 9 about a man wearing "inappropriate clothing." After arriving at the pool, police escorted the thong-wearing man from the area.
According to Roberson, anyone who goes swimming in Prairie Village must adhere to an ordinance.
"[Swimmers must wear] something that covers your private areas," he said. "Whether it be male or female, it's the same rule."
The man is expected to appear in court for his citation sometime over the next two weeks.
The man has not been banned from the pool, but Prairie Village police say he now faces a possible fine of at least $250.
