KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person is dead after a crash at the intersection of Santa Fe and Parker (K-7) in Olathe, Kansas.

Olathe police said they responded to the area just before 6:40 a.m. to investigate an injury accident.

Police said a box truck had been traveling south on Parker and struck the rear of another vehicle.

The box truck kept going south and struck a northbound car. The man driving that car died on the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

Olathe police spent more than four hours investigating the crash. They used specialized tools to map and recreate the crash. Investigators will determine if speed, alcohol, or distraction played a role in the wreck.

"So that if there is something that's preventable we can look at that and get that out to the public to share and we can make sure it's investigated appropriately for the victim of this crash," Sgt. Logan Bonney with the Olathe Police Department said.

The driver of the box truck is cooperating with investigators.

Police reopened the intersection before noon Tuesday and had this message for drivers:

"Santa Fe and Parker is a heavily traveled intersection most times of the day. We want everyone to be paying attention to their surroundings and the way they're driving and to put those phones down," Bonney stressed.

Anyone with information is asked to call them at 913-971-7500, or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
