KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police officers in Olathe are kicking back to have some fun with local kids. It’s part of a new community outreach project called "Kicking it with the Cops." Police are scheduling different events, through the rest of the summer, so children and adults can come out and have a good time.

“We are trying to line up different events and get out in the community. We want to engage with our young citizens in a fun and meaningful way,” said Sgt. Bonney Logan with the Olathe Police department.

The week of July 4, officers went to community pools to have fun with kids. On Monday, July 9, Officer Kurt Dunn played kickball with around 40 children at Two Trails Park. Next week officers are planning a fishing trip to Frisco Lake.

More events are being scheduled, but Logan told 41 Action News the entire thing will end with a fun snowcone giveaway called “Chilling with a Cop.”

The Olathe Police Department will announce future event dates and times on its Facebook page.
