Overland Park city council delay vote on downtown development project

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Before listening to dozens of residents’ concerns Monday night, Overland Park City Council decided to delay voting on a proposed project known as Edison OP.

If approved, the project would be located in the heart of downtown near 80th and Marty. It would include a 5-story office building with retail space, a 2-story food court, an outdoor plaza, surface lot and a 4-story parking garage.

"It’s a very exciting time to be in downtown Overland Park. It’s one of the reasons I decided to move here three years ago,” said Tom Crough who owns Move Right KC, a fitness studio located downtown.

While Crough believes the project will enhance the downtown and attract more people, neighbors like Kelly Marrow worry about the traffic.

"It is a lot of business, it is a lot of people, it is a lot of traffic and cars,” Marrow said, adding, "We have one historic downtown in Overland Park, which I believe needs to be preserved.”
