Strawberry Hill Povitica Co. is a family-owned company that has made their traditional Croation povitica for three generations. The company has grown - it is now being carried in several states around the country and delivered all over the world. Around Kansas City, the 2 1/2-pound holiday staple is carried in 100 stores.
Co-owner Marc O’Leary says this is the busiest time of year. On a normal day, 50 bakers handmake about 3,500 rolls. Around the holidays, 100 bakers crank out 6,000 rolls and are sold out every day.
Thirteen flavors are currently available, including the newest “white chocolate cherry.”
The bakery, now located in Merriam, is offering extended hours leading up to Christmas.
