Lawrence garbage crews have been busy since Saturday.
The last two weeks of July and first two weeks of August are the busiest for the college town.
“There’s a four-week period that we kind of know this is going to happen," said Craig Pruett, the Operations Supervisor for the Solid Waste Division in Lawrence.
The weekend was peak trash time, but Pruett said it's not over yet.
Thousands of students are still in transition.
"Literally two teams took two loads each to the landfill and those trucks can load about 25,000 pounds on per truck," Pruett explained.
He's asking residents to reassess what they toss before they drop it all off on the curb.
"For those lightly-used items and non-perishable items, you can donate to food banks, clothing, couches, Goodwill."
