KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A veteran Kansas City, Kansas police officer will be in Wyandotte County Court next Tuesday facing misdemeanor charges of sexual battery.
Steven Rios is accused of inappropriately touching a woman on March 9.
Wyandotte County District Attorney Mark Dupree said Rios was on duty when he allegedly inappropriately touched a female civilian employee with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department.
Rios was charged with Sexual Battery Person Class A — which is a misdemeanor — because the district attorney said the type of touching did not rise to the level of a felony.
If convicted, Rios faces a possible six months in jail and up to a $1,000 fine.
Rios was on the police detail that protected former KCK Mayor Mark Holland.
Dupree encouraged all women in Wyandotte County who have been inappropriately touched to let his office know and his office will investigate and, if warranted, pursue criminal charges.
