KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man was allegedly found to be in possession of narcotics and a gun at a Blue Springs, Missouri elementary school after employees noticed he was acting strangely.

According to a letter from James Walker Elementary, a parent of a student at the school asked to use a phone to call a ride, but staff noticed that he was acting "somewhat erratically." He was ushered out of the building and detained by the Department of Public Safety officer.

That's when officials allegedly discovered the firearm and the narcotics. He was then taken into custody by Blue Springs police.

In a letter to parents, Principal Kelly Flax commended the office staff and the Department of Public Safety officer for their "awareness and efforts to ensure the safety of our school."
