KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a series of vandalism in the Northland just outside of Gladstone, including several car thefts and an attempted break-in.
"I found this car, looked like someone probably used a slim jim on it. And I was turned around to go back and I noticed that my gate between the house and the garage was open, which I never leave open,” Larry Quick told 41 Action News.

Quick has lived in the Village of Oakwood for the last 16 years. It’s a quiet neighborhood, he said, until Wednesday when he discovered someone had tried to break into his car, kick down the door to his garage and instead stole tools from his wife’s shed.
“I was just a little bit tort,” said Quick. "It took me a long time to work to get what I got. I kind of would like to keep it.”
Thieves also targeted William Jones across the street.
Two of his cars were parked in his driveway, both locked and broken into.
“Everything [had] been removed from the glove box, the center console, and everywhere else in the vehicle. And gone through too,” he said. "It looks like they were searching for something, something in particular but I don’t have a clue what it would be.”
Two others cars on Jones and Quick's street had also been rummaged through. A window of a car the next street over had been smashed, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office told 41 Action News.
Deputies do not have any suspect information but have since increased patrols in the area.
To help protect your vehicle, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office suggests the following tips:
