KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A suspect is in custody after a lengthy standoff that forced the evacuation of apartment buildings in Claycomo.

At 11:48 a.m. Thursday, a Claycomo officer conducted a traffic stop at 69 Highway and Bryant.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said the driver fled on foot and pointed a gun at the officer, though no shots were fired.

The suspect was been contained to an apartment complex in Claycomo, which forced some buildings to be evacuated.

41 Action News reporter Steven Dial spoke with the resident who lived in the apartment unit the suspect locked him self in.

"I thought they were just going to tell me I couldn't go home," the resident said. "They told me someone was in my apartment.

"They told me they were going to get a warrant to enter the home and they asked me if I could give them my consent, so I said yeah."

Police officers from Kansas City, Pleasant Valley, Liberty, and sheriff’s deputies from Platte County assisted.
