There were hugs, tears and a touching rendition of Amazing Grace at a vigil for Corey Turner on Wednesday night.

Hundreds of people gathered at Harrisonville High School to remember the teen who was killed walking home from school.

Harrisonville mom Jennifer Hawley described it as, "Scary. You know you're turning your kid out into the world and anything can happen. Tomorrow's not a guarantee and this brings it to light big time."

Erin Claiborne's daughter was in band with Corey. She said, "You send your kids out saying I love you, have a good day and you really don't think about oh my god I may not see them come home."

It's an emotional loss for students like Serena Stephens, who was best friends with Corey since they were three years old.

"We're pretty much brother and sister. The hardest part about all of this is not being able to see him anymore," Stephens said.
