Forte among finalists for interim Jackson County sheriff seat

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jackson County has narrowed down the search for an interim sheriff to five candidates, including Darryl Forte, the recently-retired Kansas City, Missouri police chief. 

Jackson County and the Mid-America Regional Council announced Wednesday the candidates.

The sheriff's position is vacant after Mike Sharp resigned from the position amid an investigation into his relationship with an employee and his use of tax dollars. 

The finalists are scheduled for public interviews starting at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 4 at the MARC office at 600 Broadway, Suite 200 in Kansas City, Mo. 

  • 9:00 a.m. – Rosilyn Allen, retired Kansas City Police Major
  • 9:35 a.m. – Ramona Arroyo, retired Kansas City Police Sergeant
  • 10:10 a.m. – Darryl Forte‘, retired Kansas City Police Chief
  • 10:45 a.m. – Break
  • 10:55 a.m. – James Ripley, retired Missouri State Highway Patrol Lieutenant
  • 11:30 a.m. – Michael Rogers, Patrol Enforcement Captain Jackson County Sheriff’s Office

A nine-person committee will review and interview the candidates. Current KCPD Chief Rick Smith has agreed to recuse himself from the committee due to Forte being one of the applicants. Dr. Kristi Holsinger, the Chair of the Department of Criminal Justice at UMKC, will take his place.

Community members will be given a brief opportunity to address the committee after the interviews. Those who want to speak must sign up via email at marcinfo@marc.org by 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 3.

The committee will narrow down the candidates to two to three recommendations. County Executive Frank White will make the final selection.
