Jackson County sheriff’s deputies are investigating after human remains were found in a wooded area near Interstate 435 and Truman Road on Tuesday around 7 p.m.

According to a news release sent Thursday, the remains were discovered and reported to the sheriff’s office by a local man searching for wild mushrooms.

The remains at the scene were determined to be from a human and sent to the medical examiner's office where further examination will be made by anthropologist at a later date, according to authorities.

The cause of death is unknown at this time.

This is the third set of remains found in the KC metro area this week, though it is unknown if any of them are connected.
