Felony Lane Gang strikes Kansas City metro

Posted

Police are warning about a gang of thieves moving through the metro.

The “Felony Lane Gang” is back and the thieves aren’t targeting shopping centers. Instead, they’re hitting parks and daycare centers where victims are most vulnerable, according to police.

“Your average thief, typically they don't want to be seen, they don’t want to be heard,” Officer Beth Glover with the Lee’s Summit Police Department said.

However, that's not case with the Felony Lane Gang. Police said the gang broke into four cars in a busy parking lot last week. On Monday, they tried to pass a stolen check from one of the victims at a bank across the state line.

“What they're looking for is the driver's license and the checkbook, then they'll go to the bank of the first victim, pretend to be that victim and use the other person's check to write to the original victim,” Glover said.

It's at least the second time the gang has hit the area. The Florida-based gang is making use of the metro's vast network of highways and interstates.

"They are hard to catch because they move quickly and they're out the area and it's us trying to catch up with them,” Glover said.

That’s leaving police to alert the community before they strike again.

Lee’s Summit resident Julia Anderson takes extra steps to keep her valuables out of sight here at the park and around the city.

“You feel sometimes like you're close enough that you can keep an on eye on them for the most part but it's sad, how people will break in and do whatever they can,” Anderson said.

Here’s the warning from police:
