UPDATE: Updated with information from the probable cause statement released by the Lee's Summit Police Department.

According to police, Lawrence Barr, 24, turned himself into authorities after fatally shooting his brother, Aaron Elmore, in Lee's Summit Wednesday morning.

Authorities said the two brothers were having a verbal argument around 9:40 a.m. before Barr pulled out a gun and shot Elmore.

The probable cause statement says the victim was shot in a bathroom while his two-year-old son brushed his teeth right next to him.

"Probably three or four people inside the home this morning when the tragedy occurred," said Sgt Chris Depue of the Lee’s Summit Police Department. “Information quickly revealed through a witness who was inside the home that it was another family member."

The suspect then fled the scene in a vehicle before police arrived. Police documents say Barr threw his handgun out of the window of his vehicle after leaving the scene.

When officers made it to the home near the 800 block of NE Magellan Avenue, they found a male victim with gunshot wounds.

As officers were attempting to locate the shooter, the suspected brother returned to the crime scene and turned himself into police. He was taken into custody without incident.

Barr told officers the shooting was an accident and he wasn't aware the gun was loaded at the time of the shooting.
