State fire investigators are now investigating a fire that damaged a rental property Monday morning near Main street in Smithville, Mo.

Smithville Fire Department crews showed up to the house on the corner of Main Street and Liberty Road around 5:30 a.m.
The thick smoke and flames were contained to the back of the structure, according to Fire Chief John Callahan.
No one was injured.

Chief Callahan said the current tenants were not home at the time of the fire but were in the process of moving out.
At the request of the Smithville Fire Department, the Missouri Department of Public Safety's fire marshal will assist in the investigation.
