PLATTE CITY, Mo. — Missouri State Highway Patrol said a semi-truck driver crossing the median to make a U-turn was involved in a deadly crash on I-29 north of Kansas City International Airport.
The crash happened shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday near mile marker 24, south of the exit for NW County Road E.
According to an initial crash report, a car crashed into the back of a semi-truck as the tractor-trailer tried to cross the median and go from the southbound lanes to the northbound lanes.
Highway patrol said the passenger in the car, Cynthia Humphrey, 66, died in the crash. Paramedics took the driver, 67-year-old Herbert Humphrey, to the hospital in serious condition.
It did not appear the 71-year-old driver of the semi was injured in the crash.
