Students at the University of Kansas are on alert after police said a man groped a female student in broad daylight Tuesday in the middle of campus.

According to police, between 10:20 and 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, a female student reported that an unknown male grabbed her groin area as she was walking in the area of the Wescoe Hall loading dock. The male was last seen heading southwest from Wescoe Service Drive.

"Wescoe is probably the busiest spot on campus probably. I think I go by there every day," said Maddie Hahn, a sophomore at KU.

Authorities described the suspect as a white male, 23 to 29 years old, 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall with a brown faux-hawk haircut. He was wearing a tank top covered by a beige long-sleeve shirt, blue jeans and black dress shoes.

KU Public Safety Captain James Anguiano said this is the second incident reported on campus in a week. He said the campus previously saw about three cases on average in the last two years.

Several students said they weren't all that shocked by the incident.

"It's kind of sad, but it's become kind of desensitized now, so..." said Ashton Edwards, a KU sophomore.

"I wasn't really shocked as much as we should be, which is sad because it's a big deal," said Hahn.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 785-864-8888 or the KU Public Safety Office at 785-864-5900.
