KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Wichita police have confirmed they are investigating a fatal shooting at the home of 5-year-old Lucas Hernandez's father.

Lucas is the boy who disappeared from his Wichita home while his stepmother, Emily Glass, said she showered and took a nap. Glass at first denied knowing anything about Lucas’s disappearance when she reported him missing in February, but months later led a private investigator to his body under a bridge.

Police confirmed Friday afternoon the person killed in Friday morning’s shooting is Glass. While it's been reported that her death was a suicide, Wichita police said the cause is still under investigation and will be determined by the coroner's office.

A friend of Glass, Shelly Eberhardt, spoke to Wichita NBC affiliate KSN, saying Glass would not have taken her own life.

Police said Lucas's father, Jonathan Hernandez, called 911 at 1:40 a.m. Friday after getting home to find his girlfriend, Glass, dead. Officers found a rifle near her feet, and three suicide notes inside the home.

Police told KSN that Hernandez is cooperating with police.

After Glass revealed the location of Lucas’s body, she was arrested on suspicion of obstruction of justice and interfering with a law enforcement officer but was released with no charges filed against her.

The autopsy on Lucas’s body is still underway, according to KSN, and police said the investigation into his death is ongoing as well.
