The St. Joseph School District has lifted its lockdown status.

According to police, district officials believe there is no immediate threat to students or staff members.

School activities have resumed as normal.

As a safety precaution, all schools in the St. Joseph School District are on lockdown, school officials announced on Monday morning.

Monday was the first day of school for students.

The lockdown was ordered after students were already in their classroom, administrators said.

A spokeswoman told 41 Action News it wasn't the best way to start the school year.

The school district say they are communicating with parents through its parent notification system that sends either a phone call, email or text when the lockdown has been lifted.

In a message sent to parents from the notification system:

"As police continue to investigate a vehicle involved in multiple incidents throughout the city, the safety of our students and staff members is a top priority and therefor all students and staff members will remain in their buildings until further notice."

Police are investigating several locations where shots were fired, starting last night, administrators said.

One person was shot three times at one location and officers found shell casings at a second locations that was originally a home invasion call, officials said.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
