1. When will the roads become slick? The mix of precipitation moves in from 6-9 p.m. from south to north. The roads will get slick pretty quickly once the precipitation starts.
2. What type of precipitation are we expecting? At this time, it looks like mostly sleet and freezing rain. There is a better chance of snow northwest of KC and rain southeast of KC. Sleet is a frozen raindrop and freezing rain is liquid water that freezes on contact. The precipitation will likely turn to snow Monday before the storm ends.
3. Is this going to cause power outages? This is tough to answer, as it depends whether we see more sleet or more freezing rain. Sleet is a frozen raindrop and does not accumulate on power lines. Freezing rain is the culprit when it comes to power lines. At this time, it is hard to tell which type will dominate. It also will be location dependent. We may not know how this is going until the storm is occurring.
4. How much snow will occur? It looks like most areas will see 1-3" of snow between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday. Locations northwest of KC may see 4"+. Again, this depends on how quickly the precipitation changes to snow.
5. What should I take away from this forecast? Be prepared for slick and hazardous roads after 6-9 p.m. tonight through Monday. Check back with 41 Action News on air and online for updates as this is still a changing forecast.
