KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Missouri high schools now have the choice to move their fall seasons to the spring after receiving the green light from the Missouri State High School Activities Association on Thursday.

“Today’s action by the Board of Directors puts into place a plan of action our staff devised in the event a school is not able to participate partially or in whole. This could give those students an opportunity to complete a season in their sport,” MSHSAA Executive Director Dr. Kerwin Urhahn said in a statement.

If schools decide to move their seasons, they must have the time to play a full-length schedule in the spring, and also make time for a postseason.

The new schedule for sports traditionally played in the fall would begin on March 12, 2021, and end on May 1, 2021.

Schools that choose to play the alternate fall schedule will also have the option to play an alternate spring schedule which would run from May 14, 2021, to July 10, 2021.

If a school wants to opt out of the alternate spring schedule, it can do so by contacting the MSHSAA.

Under the new plan, winter sports would still be scheduled to start on time with the first practice being on Monday, Nov. 1.
