KANSAS CITY, Mo. — In Denver last week, the Broncos quarterback room was wiped out due to COVID-19 concerns.

Drew Lock, Brett Rypien and Blake Bortles all were ruled ineligible to play, which left someone unexpected under center against the New Orleans Saints.

“I put out the statement, said what I said and you know, meant it," Lock said. "I’ll own up to this mistake, again I feel like this team and everyone that’s been involved has done a great job with protocols."

This week, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was asked the "what-if" question after seeing what happened to the Broncos.

“We’ve got guys that we work in as the 3rd quarterback on game day," Reid said. "I’m not going to put that out there, but we have a couple of guys that we work every week."

While Reid wouldn't elaborate, the Chiefs do have a few former quarterbacks on the roster.

Chiefs' tight end Travis Kelce was an all-conference quarterback at Cleveland Heights High. He also took snaps at the University of Cincinnati as a redshirt freshman. Kelce has also thrown a few passes in a Chiefs uniform.

Chiefs' cornerback Bashaud Breeland could also get the call. In his senior year at South Carolina, he rushed for 12 touchdowns as a quarterback.

Chiefs' safety Juan Thornhill must not be forgotten. He could be the safety net for the Chiefs -- maybe. Thornhill played quarterback in high school and was voted the state's best in his school's classification.

Luckily for the Chiefs, the QB room is healthy and ready to go against the Broncos on Sunday Night Football.

“Those guys are flawless about wearing their masks," Reid said. "I mean, they keep those things on relentlessly and that becomes important also."
