KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the center of attention, but Austin Reiter is Mahomes' center and has the best view of what all goes right -- and lately, what's gone wrong with the Chiefs' offense.
"We're kicking ourselves in the butt," Reiter said in an exclusive one-on-one interview with 41 Action News after Sunday's 40-32 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.
"I think the only people who can stop us, is us," he said.
The Chiefs were their own worst enemy Sunday with 10 penalties, a turnover and 21 incompletions. Mahomes was sacked three times and the Chiefs only rushed for 80 yards.
Things started out sour for the Chiefs' offensive line with starting guard Kelechi Osemele tearing tendons in both knees on the first series.
Reiter said that injury didn't factor into the Chiefs' performance.
"I love Kelechi, love playing next to him, but these are the types of things we prepare for all week," Reiter said. "We roll guys in and out. The coaches do a great job of, if one guy goes down, next man up."
Reiter said the Chiefs, 4-1, will bounce back.
"We've got a resilient bunch here," he said. "You saw that in the postseason last year. I don't think that mentality has changed."
The Chiefs next play the Bills on Oct. 19 in Buffalo.
