Forbes Magazine released its annual ranking on the value of Major League Baseball teams, and the news is not good for the Kansas City Royals.
According to the 2017 rankings, the Royals are the 7th least valuable franchise in MLB. Forbes' ranking has the team worth $950 million, ranked 24th out of 30 teams.
The Royals' value did grow 10 percent during the 2016 season, despite not making the playoffs after winning the World Series in 2015.
The average MLB team was worth $1.54 billion. The least valuable team is the Tampa Bay Rays, valued at $825 million.
The Royals were one of five teams to lose money last season. They lost $900,000. The Detroit Tigers were the biggest losers. They lost $36.4 million.
There is good news for the boys in blue. According to Forbes, the Royals had the highest average cable TV rating for 2016 games at 11.1.
