Youth baseball in Kansas City has just scored another home run courtesy of Royals catcher Salvador Perez.

After signing a contract extension this week, the World Series MVP is giving back to the new MLB Urban Youth Academy.

Perez will pitch in an impressive $1 million which will go toward building four new fields during phase one of the construction at Parade Park.

This is a fabulous way for Perez to give back to the community. The KC Urban Youth Academy will be the seventh built in the United States and operated in the Urban Core. Other cities include the original in Compton, California, New Orleans and Cincinnati.

The Royals are also planning to make history on opening day, by having a 10 mile long game of catch called Relay the Way to raise money for the program.
