KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Another piece of the 2015 World Series champion Kansas City Royals team is leaving the club.
The team announced Friday the trade of catcher Drew Butera to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for left-hander Jerry Vasto.
Vasto has spent much of the season pitching for the Rockies’ AAA affiliate, going 2-1 with a 3.16 ERA in 37 innings.
During his time with the Royals, Butera has served as a durable back-up to Salvador Perez.
It was Butera behind the plate who caught the final pitch of the Royals Game 5 clincher over the New York Mets.
