KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Salvador Perez is closer to joining the 2018 season.

The Royals star catcher has been out with a sprained left knee since days before season started. The original prognosis had Salvy missing 4-6 weeks. Right now the outlook is closer to the four-week number.

"I feel a lot better," said Perez. "And I don't think it's going to take the (amount of) time people said when it happened."

Monday at Kauffman Stadium, Perez took live BP for the first time since the injury. He also ran bases and has been catching some as well.

Back-up catchers Drew Butera and Cam Gallagher are 6-28 with 4 RBIs in Perez's absence.

The Royals face the Mariner's Tuesday night at 7:15 pm.
