KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Big 12 Conference announced Monday night its football teams will play nine conference games and one non-conference game in 2020.
Its board of directors is calling it a "9+1 schedule."
The teams will play nine conference games and one non-conference opponent at home, according to a statement on the conference website.
It's expected the season will start in mid-to-late September, according to the release.
The non-conference game will be played before the conference season begins.
“I would like to salute the work of our university presidents and chancellors, athletics directors, coaches, medical advisers and administrators who have worked tirelessly and collaboratively during these extraordinary times,” Commissioner Bob Bowlsby said in the release. “We believe this change provides the best opportunity going forward. However, we will undoubtedly need to be flexible as we progress through the season in order to combat the challenges that lie ahead.”
