MANHATTAN, Kan. — Kansas State Athletics has announced a new initiative to grow social justice awareness for its student-athletes, coaches and staff.
The department said it's in its fourth year of a Diversity and Inclusion plan.
Men's basketball coach Bruce Weber issued a statement on Wednesday:
“I’m proud of our players for truly caring for each other and their fellow students to bring change not only to our campus, but to our country. Their voices have made a huge difference in starting to help K-State be a more open and welcoming place for our Black students. But this is only the start. Throughout our many Zoom sessions, I have only grown to appreciate our players and staff even more with their raw emotion, honesty and openness in discussing issues that impact the Black community. I went into education to not only help provide opportunities for student-athletes but to help bring about a better world. We all seek to end racism and social injustice and implement lasting change for the betterment of all people. I’m committed to listening and helping our players make K-State an even more special place. Black Lives Matter.”
