MANHATTAN, Kan. — Kansas State and Iowa State's annual "Farmageddon" game is known for its close finishes as much as for its inventive name.
That's why the Wildcats' 45-0 loss to the Cyclones on Saturday was a shock to everyone in Manhattan.
"It was a humbling day for all of us Saturday," K-State head coach Chris Klieman said. "Players, coaches included. And sometimes that happens in this profession."
It was never close in Ames on Saturday. After four second-quarter touchdowns, Iowa State found itself up 35-0 at halftime.
“We talked about, and he (Klieman) talked about it after the game, accountability," senior tight end Briley Moore said. "The biggest thing I think that we took from it was, yeah, we have a lot to learn from that game, but we’re into Baylor prep now."
That's Kansas State's next opponent. The Bears' only conference win is over Kansas. Kansas State sits at 4-4 overall, with a 4-3 record in the Big 12 Conference.
"These kids have really great resolve and great pride in their craft, and I know that we have unbelievable leaders with high character and high integrity," Klieman said. "I told them they need to step up and take some ownership."
After the trip to Waco, the 'Cats play host to Texas to end the regular season.
"It’s time to move on," Moore said. "Take what we learned and continue to just pound the stone one day at a time and get better and just flush it at this point.”
