SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Central Missouri advanced to the 2019 NCAA Division II Baseball World Series after it swept the defending national champion, Augstana, for the Central Regional Championship.
UCM clinched the series with a 5-2 victory on Saturday, May 25. The Mules took an early 2-0 lead after back-to-back runs in the second and third innings. The Vikings tied the game in the fifth but a Cole Taylor double sparked a three-run sixth inning and Central Missouri never looked back.
The Mules took game one of the series on Friday evening with 6-4 victory. In the game one win, four different Mules recorded multiple hits. Pitchers Ben Kelsch and Luke Mercer combined for seven strikeouts in the game.
UCM claimed its 18th regional title in program history and advances to the World Series for the first time since 2016. The NCAA Division II World Series will be June 1-8 at the USA Baseball Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.
