KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The emergence of Kareem Hunt in 2017 didn't just set back starting running back Spencer Ware, but also Charcandrick West, Ware's previous back-up.
So, sure enough, when the Chiefs roster cuts were happening in August, West was one of the players sent packing.
"They always say 'You could end up back here' but I was like 'Yeah right, okay,'" said West Thursday in the Chiefs locker room.
It took awhile and it took Hunt getting kicked off the team, but West did finally return to Kansas City in December, just in time for a run into the NFL Playoffs as the AFC's #1 seed.
"We all know in NFL football patience is the key to everything," said West.
West had patience but he had to maintain it for about 15 weeks.
"I can't even sit here and say I dreamed about this, to even be back here, but now to be having a chance to go play for the Super Bowl is crazy," said West.
West has played a limited role in returning to Kansas City, just two rushes in four games played. But he did return to the end zone with a touchdown catch against the Seahawks.
