MIAMI — Super Bowl LIV ticket prices have set ridiculous records.
But two Chiefs fans from Liberty have figured out how to make the trip to Miami for the Super Bowl trip on a tight budget.
How tight? They say they have been in Miami since Wednesday and think they can pull off their trip for about $500 a piece.
The biggest money saver for Jim and Roger Godwin was not buying tickets, which run well north of $5,000 on average. The Godwins were among several fans who came to south Florida with no intention of going to the game, a sacrifice Jim and Roger say was well worth it.
"I feel like that's the best part, because on social media we see that there are thousands of fans that are here that are not going to the game, and so we're gonna celebrate just like a game day at Arrowhead," Jim said.
Season ticket members for 11 years, the Godwins both said they just had to come to Miami when the Chiefs made it to the franchise's first Super Bowl in 50 years.
But skipping the ticket purchase was just part of how they planned to save big bucks.
The Godwins booked cheap flights into Atlanta, rented a car and drove the rest of the way to Miami. They also say they are staying at a nearby campground for about $40 a night.
"I think we're each in about $250 right now," Roger said. "So, food and drinks at the tailgate party, maybe another $100 (to) $150 each. We'll go home spending less than $1000 together."
Not bad for a once-in-a-lifetime chance for most Chiefs fans these days.
