KANSAS CITY, Mo. — NFL preseason games have been eliminated for 2020.
Veteran players love it, but constructing a roster just got tougher for the Chiefs' Brett Veach and all other NFL general managers.
"I don't know if there's a right or wrong answer to that," Veach said.
After all, players haven't had organized team activities or mini-camps in this COVID-19 stunted offseason.
Throwing them into game action too early could heighten the risk of injury.
"I certainly see the players' side of wanting additional time for the build-up and to make sure their bodies are where they need to be," Veach said.
The problem is that travel, game day operations and countless other aspects of the season have changed once again due to the pandemic.
NFL teams could use a couple trial runs before the real games begin.
"It would be good to do a home game and go through the protocol of 'Here's what it's going to be like,' and the same could be said for a road game," Veach said.
Instead, the Chiefs' first game of 2020 will be the NFL Season Opener on Thursday, Sept. 10, at Arrowhead Stadium against the Houston Texans.
