KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker was riding high after hitting a game-winning 58-yard field goal Sept. 20 in overtime to beat the Los Angeles Charger.
Barely two weeks later, he's looking to get back on track after a series of missed kicks entering Week 5 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Butker missed a an extra point and a field goal Sept. 28 in a win at the Baltimore Ravens. He proved to be a little shaky again Monday, missing another point-after touchdown against the New England Patriots.
Kansas City Assitant Head Coach/Special Teams Coordinator Dave Toub said Butker has identified the problem and worked this week to get his rhythm back moving forward.
“He’s kind of toeing the ball, catching it with his toe, that's what we figured out ...," Toub said. "We worked on it yesterday. We hit nothing but extra points. ... He was nothing but 100%, and we feel like we know where the miss is and where it's happening. We just have to eliminate that miss."
Toub added that no one's more bothered by the recent struggles than Butker, who owns the second-highest field goal percentage in NFL history at 89.6%.
"It bothers him more than anybody," Toub said. "He’s such a perfectionist that that kind of stuff just drives him nuts."
