KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The negotiations between Chiefs DL Chris Jones and the Chiefs are heating up.

With the sides locked in a well-publicized contract negotiation, Jones turned up the heat on Twitter Tuesday, threatening to sit out the 2020 season if his offer is not met.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported Tuesday the two sides are not any closer to reaching an agreement. Jones’ camp is reportedly asking for a per-year salary close to $20 million.

Reports this offseason state that there hasn’t been "much traction" toward a deal to keep Jones in KC.

The sides have until July 15 to ink a deal. The Chiefs used their franchise tag on the DL to prevent him from becoming a free agent.

Jones is due $16.1 million under the 2020 franchise tag.
